I’m plus size, do you stock larger sizes to try on?

We stock sizes 10-22 in our studio and we promote body positivity. We want to make sure that every bride has a fun and relaxing appointment and leaves feeling amazing!

We only stock one of each sample dress so the size can differ, however we have many tricks up our sleeve to make sure that you get a great feel for how the dress will look on you!

Can you dye pre existing wedding dresses?

Unfortunately we don't dip dye dresses other than our own, as there are so many different materials that can be used to make wedding dresses and they don't all take dye in the same way.

In our eyes it is always a massive risk to dye someone's wedding dress and it isn't a responsibility we are willing to take on when it's not a dress that we have made.

Where are you based and how can I try on your dresses?

We are based in Chelmsford, Essex. We are 30 minutes out of London by train, and less than 5 minutes walk from Chelmsford Station!

How much time do you need to make a dress?

Our usual lead time is 6 months to make a dress. This is due to each dress being lovingly handmade in our studio by our small team of 5. If you require your dress sooner please send us an enquiry as we may be able to accommodate you depending on the time of year.

What is the process of having a dress made by you?

We first invite you to have a 1 hour 30 minute appointment with one of our dress experts. Our team are very relaxed and love finding brides their perfect dress! Our appointments are described as relaxing and stress free.

If you decide to go ahead we require a deposit to secure your order.

We then aim to take your measurements 4-5 months before your wedding.

We will then make your dress and aim to have your first dress fitting 2 months before your wedding.

If everything fits perfectly you can take your dress away on the day. If alterations are required this will take an additional 2-4 weeks.

Do the dresses come in other colours?

We can dye our dresses in pretty much any colour! We regularly custom dye dresses to our bride’s specifications. We can work with each individual bride to make sure the colour of their dress is perfect. You can even send us colour swatches for us to match!

Can your dresses be customised?

Yes! We regularly alter sleeve length, neckline, back height, skirt length and much more to ensure each bride leaves with their perfect dress! We can discuss this further at your appointment. A lot of our brides want to wear a bra on their wedding day - any of our backless dresses can be customised to cover bras.

Where are your dresses made?

All of our dresses are handmade from scratch in our little tropical studio in Chelmsford, Essex by our team of 5 seamstresses. Everything is all under one roof so you will get to know all of the team during your LCD journey. The same people who take your appointment will also be making your dress! This is something very special and unique about us.

What sustainable practices does Lucy Can't Dance use?

Our gowns are produced one at a time by fairly paid seamstresses. Creating made-to-order gowns minimises over-production, surplus inventory, and waste compared to mass production.

We use 100% renewable electricity to power our studio.

All of our fabric scraps are utilised for other projects or are donated to local schools and colleges in order to minimise wastage.

We are always on the lookout for new ways to make our business more ethical and sustainable and we are always striving to do better.

Do you ever have Sales or Discounts?

We recently made a Sample Sale section on our website for discontinued dresses or cancelled orders. We may update this in the future so keep your eyes peeled. This is not something that we regularly update as we use our sample dresses for many years in our studio.

We occasionally run competitions where we offer discounts on our Instagram.

Do you rent your dresses?

If you are an industry professional (Photographers, Wedding Planners and Stylists only) We will consider lending a select number of our dresses to you for styled shoots purposes. To obtain more information please send us an email with the subject “ Styled Shoot” to lucy@lucycantdance.com
