The Walk Down the Aisle Tradition and How to Make it You!

This is volume 1 of our blog series looking into wedding traditions. We are looking at how they fit into today’s society and ways to alter them to fit your personality and values.

Hey guys,

Planning your big day?  One tradition that pops up is the dad walk down the aisle. But is it crucial?  Let's ditch the wedding rulebook and chat about where this tradition comes from, why it might not be your jam, and some awesome alternative ways to make your entrance epic!

The Walk Down the Aisle: A (Potentially) Long Walk Through History

The whole "dad walking you down the aisle" thing has roots way back in the day (think medieval times!). Back then, marriage was more about business deals than love stories. Dads basically "handed over" their daughters to their new husbands, ensuring a good alliance (and a hefty dowry!).  Not exactly the romantic stroll we picture today!

Fast forward to today: Mix it up!

So, why might you not want your dad to walk you down the aisle? Here are a few reasons:

 * Blended Family Love:  Maybe you have two dads, a stepmom you're super close to, or amazing parents who both raised you. You might want them both to walk you down the aisle, or maybe none of them!

 * Going Solo: You're a strong, independent woman who wants to make a grand entrance on your own terms.  Heck yeah!

 * Mum's the Word: You have an incredible bond with your mum and want her to walk you down the aisle.  Do it! This is exactly what I did at my wedding. It’s a shame that mums don’t get a bigger part at weddings!

Alternative Entrances: Here Comes the Fun

The beauty of your wedding day is that it's all about YOU! So ditch tradition (or embrace it!) and make your walk down the aisle unforgettable.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

 * Double Trouble:  Walk down the aisle with both parents, or two equally important people in your life.

 * The Grand Entrance (Squad Goals!):  Have your whole bridal party walk down the aisle with you. Think bridesmaids, groomsmen, the whole crew!

 * The Surprise Shuffle: Don't walk down the aisle –  waltz, skip, moonwalk –  whatever makes you feel amazing!
